We don't believe placement decisions should be made from a checklist.
Every referral is considered individually. We look at the child's needs, wishes, health, risks and circumstances, as well as whether we can provide the right support and whether the placement is a suitable match with anyone already living at the home.

Bringing home life and health support together
Some children need a home that can understand more complex health or mental-health needs alongside their everyday care.
Calm Harbour Care works in partnership with Ocean Healthcare's nurse-led Complex Care Service, giving the residential team access to specialist clinical knowledge, assessment, support and training.
This can include access to Registered Paediatric Nurses and Registered Mental Health Nurses, helping the people supporting a child every day to understand their individual needs and develop the skills and competencies required to support them safely.
Where a child requires clinical intervention, this can be planned and overseen through Ocean Healthcare's CQC-regulated Complex Care Service.

Care is important but it isn't everything a child is.
At Calm Harbour, everyday life is about getting to know the person behind the care plan — their interests, routines, favourite foods, friendships, family, culture, ambitions and the things that make a good day.
Children have their own bedroom and are supported to make their space personal to them.
They can be involved in choosing meals and everyday activities, enjoy time in the home and local community, continue with education and maintain relationships with family and friends where appropriate.
We want children to have opportunities to try things, have fun, develop skills and experience the ordinary moments that make somewhere feel like home.
Every child deserves to have a voice
Plans made with children, not simply about them
Children's views are central to how Calm Harbour is run.
We want every child to feel able to say what is important to them, ask questions, make choices and raise concerns.
Children are supported to contribute to their care and everyday routines through regular one-to-one conversations and other opportunities to have their say. Where something they have asked for isn't possible, we believe they deserve an honest explanation.
Children also have access to independent people they can speak to if they would rather talk to someone outside the home.

Tell us about the child, their circumstances and the support they need. You don't need to know whether Calm Harbour is right before speaking to us.
We consider the whole picture
We consider the child's needs, health requirements, risks and whether Calm Harbour can safely provide the right support.
We get to know the child
Where a placement looks appropriate, introductions are planned around the child so they can begin getting to know us too.
We plan the transition
Where circumstances allow, this can include visits and a gradual introduction to the home before moving in.
We keep listening
Plans continue to be reviewed with the child and the people around them as needs, goals and circumstances change.
